You have to give the Phillies credit though, they have a very good ball team.
What it comes down to is, the relief was not there today and that is unexcusable.
I still say that it is time for Papa Duncan to leave the organization.

We are only a 1/2 game out. With the cubs getting players back it will make for a interesting final two months. I believe the team with the brst pitching staff by the trade deadline will be the one to bet on.

^Do you still have Sorry-ano playing for you?  ;D

Cubs played above their ability last year.  When they have to play REAL teams they cannot buy a win -- hence why they'e had such a problem with the Cardinals this year.

There is no way we make the playoffs if Wellemeyer stays in the rotation.  He's basically a guaranteed loss every time he starts.  The problem is, we don't really have anyone that can take his place.  I think the Cards are looking at making another trade for pitching, though.

Lets see swossie- a 526 winning percentage to your 525- I guess all your wins are against quality teams-  lets talk again after your series with the dodgers.

I find it interesting that you (themeparkguy) only surface in this thread when the Baby Bears have a little luck go there way.  Ah to be a fickle baby bear fan.  Must be a tad exhausting.  ::)

Back on topic: I agree that Wellemeyer needs to go.  I find it hard to believe that we do not have someone in the bullpen that could step up into a starter's role.  Lohse is still not 100% and in all honesty we need 2 starters at this time.  Carpenter, Wainwright and Pineiro cannot get it done all by themselves.

Why can't we move Brad Thompson back into the rotation?

I'm always here swoosie- please explain the winning percentage- your good at ducking questions you don't like the answer to ;D

Fine the Series this year with the Cubs is: Cards 8 Cubs 5
IDK what is so hard to understand about, but there you go.

of those wins, 4 of them were blowouts (>3 points)
not to mention the Cardinals have the only series sweep this year between the two organizations.

Answer the wrong question to avoid the truth- if we are an inferior club -why is your winning percentage lower than ours and we are tied for first. You would not do well on the stand under cross exam. The simple truth is we have better pitching but worse hitting.

For the Cards/Cubs bickering, who cares?  Whoever wins the Central (be it the Cards, Cubs, Brewers, or Astros) I don't think that team will make it to the World Series (the only thing that matters) having to go through Philly and LA.  No to mention, it's only July 26.  Let's see who's in first come October before we start bickering over .006 winning percentage differences. ::)

I've heard rumors that Mo' is shopping Glaus around for a trade for a pitcher, since he doesn't really have a spot on the team anymore.  I've also heard that Blake Hawksworth may take Wellemeyer's spot in the rotation.

For a really crazy rumor, here you go: the Brewers are looking at calling up Carlos Castillo, who is currently playing/managing with the South Louisiana Pipeliners, a team in the independent Continental Baseball League.

My local team (Texarkana Gunslingers) just blew out the Pipeliners in a 4 game sweep.

Um, maybe it's because you've played 5 less games then the Cardinals?
IDK, that seems to be a pretty good reason to me.  ::)

In fact out of all the Central Division teams, the Cubs have played the FEWEST games this year - and the Cardinals have played the most.

if we are an inferior club

Until you get 8 more rings, the cubs will always be an inferior club.
