I caught this movie last night on the Documantary channel (DOC) at 11:15pm and HAD to stay up to watch it.(This usually shows at 9:00am at Branson's IMAX). I had set my DVR to record, but I couldn't fall asleep wondering what this movie was about. The film is presented by SDC, and the Branson Discovery IMAX. The film follows five generations of the McFarlain's family legacy in the IMAX film. The family is torn apart by the Civil War, we are faced with the vigilante Baldknobbers, explore unknown caves, and fly in the first biplane to visit the Ozarks. You participate in celebrations of birth, baptism and marriage as they happened in the rugged hills of the Ozarks from the 1820's until the 1950's. I saw at least one recognizable interior (I believe it was McHaffie's Homestead) and I believe Fantastic Caverns and Buffalo River. Having been to the IMAX theater (but not for the show) I recognized the revenuers car that is on display along with some displays of the "War Between The States" uniforms. There is also a restaurant in the complex inspired by the IMAX adventure "Ozarks Legacy & Legend," McFarlain's Family Restaurant.

I wonder if anyone else who has seen the film been able to recognize any other locations from within SDC for the movie?

I think I saw that once when it came out in 1995.  I'd like to see it again, though.

We took our oldest daughter to see that in 96 at the IMAX.  What a slow movie to watch at the IMAX.  I would like to see it again at home to see if it was really that slow.

it was really that slow..
i nearly nodded off... i was looking for SDC things and folks as well.
Uncle Gene from the Cave Desk was in the movie

I have it on the DVR I am gonna have to find Gene in there! It was slow, but I was mainly watching the scenery etc. I could see the plane scene as being Imax worthy, but the rest of the scenes I am sure were very lacking in excitement on the HUGE screen.

I used to go and see it in IMAX weekly after a hot day of working in the City when I was a "citizen" and was overjoyed to find that they finally sell it on DVD at the gift shop just outside the IMAX theater.  I still pop it in every once in a while.

There was originally a "family" get-together type of pre-show where all of the current Branson musical performers gathered in a grassy field by a river for a picnic.  It was filmed specifically for the Branson IMAX theater and really neat but I am sure it has been canned for the ages.

There are multiple SDC citizens in the Ozarks film including the Haygood family, some M&E guys and of course Gene and another of the Blacksmiths.   I worked at the city when the film came out and it was kind of neat poking fun at out local celebrities.

I've only seen snippets of the film, but seem to recall a reunion picnic.  I think you can spot Yakov in there and Jim Stafford.  Am I also remembering the Dillards in the scene?  Are the Osmonds in there?

(BTW, it's nice to see you posting again, betamike.)

Yes!  You are correct, they are all featured (or as featured as any of them can be) and it sort of dates the film.  Unfortunately, the copy of the DVD I got of the film didn't come with the reunion picnic film.  Would love to see that again.

Also, appreciate the welcome back.  I have been working so much lately that it has been hard to keep up with all the great posts on here, but will be at the City the second week of August and vacation time will hopefully put me back on the boards.
