This weekend Silver Dollar City was host to the third annual Springfield Area Stair Climb. Firefighters from 5 different states converged at the park to participate in the event, which involves climbing sets of stairs over and over again to simulate climbing 110 stories. The significance of the 110 stories is a homage to the firefighters that were lost on September 11, 2001.

The event was previously held at a stadium, but was moved to Silver Dollar City to give participants a day of enjoyment with their families after the event. The new Fireman’s Landing area, which honors firefighters, was surely also a major factor in selection of the park.

The firefighters and guests to the park that day were welcomed with a fireman’s salute as the local fire department used their ladder truck to display a large American flag over the front entrance way.

More information about the event can be found here, and there are some great photos here.
